No. This "proxychange" hack doesn't depend at all on a specific clip or media format. As long as you can load and playback (at least) the proxy format within cinelerra, things are fine. All we're doing here is to change the "media source" pointer, which Cinellerra uses to access the media to a given clip in the timeline. Cinelerra will figure out the right media format automatically (if it is able to handle this format at all). Just, as said, when your proxy files are named (or located) in a different way as was assumed on the page in the Cinelerra manual, we probably need to adjust the source and target patterns used by the script. The goal is, that the script generates an entry within each clip, which matches an entry in the media list within the same session. Because then cinelerra is able to show you any content of this clip. Thats all about it, the idea is quite simple. (manipulate this pointer to the media source, and Cinelerra will happily show you the other media's data) Now I'm a bit at a loss, because I don't know how familiar you're with the contents of the session XML files; but maybe you want to send me a short example session (e.g. a session, which contains just an original full res media, a proxy media and a single clip on the timeline). I don't need any media files, just the session XML.
