MARTIN, GOD BLESS YOU, now we are two, The NESTING is a GREAT FEATURE in every commercial tools. in premiere this are called Sequences, or COMPOSITIONS in After FX. If cinelerra get that could be MUCH EASIER WORKING WITH CLIPS. Everybody said that it is a complex feature to add into cinelerra, and some other workaround was being used, but I always have the hope that someone else sees the ultility of this.

this is what I go throug every week, the nesting, ot metaclip, could REALLY HELP HERE:

Blender has this feature, but is limited, in Premiere PRO or Edius 4, you can SEE how this works, actually, in Premiere PRO 1.0, the older one, when sequences were added the memory use to suffer when you NEST many sequences, but now seems to be a stable feature. take a look of how this works.

One idea is (1) a rendering option to render to a 'metaclip' and then (2)
using the metaclip as an input on a second timeline. The first step is like
rendering in a lossless codec except no rendering takes place at this stage,
it all happens in the second step.

Mainactor used to have this feature, now that it is gone, you could download the demo version tu study how this works in linux. In Mainactor no render was needed, the DEFAULT timeline IS A CLIP in the proyect, you can ADD OTHER ONE and then have them open in tags of the same window.

no render action is needed there, if you add that RENDER ACTION, you add extra steps and delaying the editor in several steps

This is a concept taken from blender that might be useful for Cinelerra in a
future interface enhancement.

Actually, this concept is older, from Avid systems, then Final CUT and After FX make extensive use of this, and a couple of years ago Premiere PRO, and some semi-pro commercial tools had this, and finally, at LAST EDIUS. Cinelerra comes behind, the CLIP option does something like this, but still returns all the tracks, nos a single meta clip

the TRUE ADVANCE in cinelerra, could be CROSS COMPATIBILITY between blender-sequencer/metaclips and CINELERRA-metaclips, so you can GO AND BACK your project into 2D and 3D like happends betheen PremierePRO and AfterFX, but cinelerra could achive BETTER integration with Opensource TOOLS, and gain more in less time, because you don“t need to BUY A COMPANY to use their productos, all is GNU. I think UBUNTUSTUDIO PEOPLE, should take care of this kind of BRIDGES, between applications, if you distract the developers from their soft you could delay the feature development, so, a CROSS METADATA BRIDGE is needed there.

as I said in other postings, CINELERRA IS BETTER than other editors in some ways, BLENDER is better than other 3D apps in some way, also GIMP, or INKSCAPE... how could all this be EVEN BETTER than threir commercial counterparts? CROSS-INTEGRATION, the GNU world should be FASTER in those areas, I say this as a premiere and cinelerra user, and lastly as an editor.

marquitux also known as anubis4d.

Ps: those are crazy ideas about CROSS INTEGRATION, I wrote, maybe are useful somehow.
