Why not? We know that Cinelerra handles HDV quite well, and some of
the clips have to be resampled no matter what, if there are both PAL and
NTSC clips.

Speaking of resolution; what aspect ratio should be used? I suppose
the majority of our readers have cameras whose native aspect ratio is
4:3. 16:9 looks more "artsy", though. If the end result will be shrunk
to something like 320x240, cropping to 16:9 will not look too shabby.

Maybe we should just shoot in the native format of the camera, whether
that is MP4, HDV or DV, and with the aspect ratio the camera was
designed for. Then it is the editor's choice what the final aspect and
resolution should be. Of course, everyone has to keep in mind that
their footage can be cropped from 4:3 to 16:9, or vice versa.
