OpenBSD tends to have somewhat restrictive ulimits by default to limit the amount of memory an “exploding” process can take. For at least -d but maybe also -m and/or -v do… ulimit -Sd $(ulimit -Hd) … to set the softlimit to the hardlimit (allowed usage for your user).
