My ksh is AT&T ksh93u compiled with libm so maybe that's why it is larger. Bash 4.2 on the same system uses 2988, so not much better. bash does not use libm.
One thing I’d like to point out though, is that the Xserver itself is taking over 20MB, and it’s not fair to count that against CDE.
