Moreover CDE desktop supports(!) 1 click to restore a minimized application because it can be configured to select the minimized icon on mouse-over. It is dtfile that does not support this (or I do not know how to set it up).

Something like focus follows mouse, but within an application such as dtfile?  I never even imagined such a thing; probably the dtfile developers, or even the Motif developers, may not have either.

Well, if you look the configuration possibilities of Gnome, KDE, Mate, etc
you can hardly find functions that CDE developers had not thought of. And this is indeed impressive to me. And one of these few things is exactly that. All file managers in Linux have this capability. Some even more: Gnome, Mate and KDE preview sound files on mouseover. If you move the pointer over a sound file not only it gets selected but the system starts playing the file (a preview).

So this function (to select on mouseover) is not something unheard of. It is common practice on today's Linux.

Thank you. I already have such a mouse and indeed it helps. But this is a different issue. From the function/interface point of view I see no reason not to select on mouseover. It is like the copy-paste function of X. If someone on MSWindows selects a text, the text does not get copied. You have to C-c to copy. Logically this is bad. If you highlight text why not already copy it? This is the main reason to highlight text. So X does it right for me. You highlight, the text gets copied. It is similar. Why not select on mouseover? I think it is correct and logical practice.

Anyway, it is just a wish.

Antonis.
