It sounds like you have figured out what you have there. I just wanted to point out for anyone searching the mailing list archives that similar items with a DEC part code embossed on them like DNSXT-CA or H3195 for example are likely to be synchronous serial loopback connectors used for running diagnostics on DEC serial interfaces from the MicroVAX era.
