Commodore in the USA/CANADA was often pressed into service for a cheap
text video overlay for broadcast TV. Was that TV overlay ever used in
the UK or Europe?

In the UK, Acorn gear was used quite a bit for overlays and computer generated graphics. I think the Amiga was used to a certain extent in commercial and small-enterprise video production, but the BBC almost exclusively used RISCPC and BBC Micro's for their graphics.





The Centre for Computing History (a Cambridge based museum) did a great video on the old Acorn broadcast gear used by the BBC
