One of my profs (William Cooper) had a discussion with him about the mathematical combination of multiple inexact items. After Zadeh talked about mathematically combining the uncertainties, Cooper asked, "Isn't that just probability?"
Zadeh responded, "probably".

He came up with ways to work with inexact items. He never claimed to be "FIRST" at anything.
