Supporting an F880 with
one of those would be a tough job--256 byte FIFO, 8-bit DMA transfer.
I streamed them without a problem on TX-8 ISA (16 bit card as you
remembered), and the TXI.
The TC-PC interface could be wirewrapped (we built up 3 examples) and
ran on just the PC
8 bit bus, and would only handle 12.5ips formatted Pertec (7840 maybe).
But the 16 bit AT bus was plenty fast if you had a 386 or 486 running.
Certainly the software that
ODI supplies streams. YMMV if you play games with the records with the
TX-8.
I think I have the means to make a Linux box with the TXI attached and
it runs full speed.
I need to build up a bigger system to hold the full sized PCI cards
again, as the cases I'm favoring
now are mini ITX or such, and get it back to running.
I have inherited maybe 1000 tapes that I will have to sort and see if
there is any salvaging. Not
sure if they are any use, but it was a one time opportunity to snag them.
thanks
