Title: Senior Scientist – Protein Technologies Team Lead

Amgen’s Therapeutic Discovery organization is seeking an enthusiastic,
collaborative Senior Scientist team lead to join the Protein Technologies
group at our Amgen British Columbia site. Protein Technologies is
responsible for designing, planning and executing on the generation of key
enabling DNA and protein reagents to support discovery of small and large
molecule therapeutics and cutting-edge novel modalities.

As a team lead within Protein Technologies, you will be responsible for
managing a high-performing team with a mandate to produce high quality
reagents to support the Amgen pipeline. You will be responsible for the
operational, strategic, and scientific management of the group and will
also actively participate in the science through hands-on lab work and
implementation of enabling technologies and automation. You will also be
responsible for aligning with our Protein Technologies group in South San
Francisco and for initiating and driving collaborations with partner
functions such as such as Antibody Discovery, Therapeutic Areas, and
Molecular Structure.

Well-suited applicants will have a strong scientific background in
recombinant protein expression, purification, and analytics, a deep
scientific curiosity, and demonstrated success in project and personnel
management.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 3 years of Scientific experience
OR
Master’s degree and 6 years of Scientific experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of Scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications


   - Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry or Molecular Biology and
   postdoc from a leading institution or biotechnology company
   - 4+ years of industry experience
   - A track record of scientific accomplishments and project leadership in
   biologics drug development as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications,
   patents, or pipeline contributions
   - 2+ years of managing a high-performing team with a focus on protein
   expression, purification, and analytics
   - Expertise in recombinant protein expression in transient and stable
   mammalian hosts such as HEK293 and CHO
   - Expertise in purifying a range of different protein types (e.g.
   extracellular domains, glycoproteins, monoclonal and multi-specific
   antibodies, membrane proteins) using multiple chromatographic methods (e.g.
   affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion)
   - Expertise in protein analytics, including HPLC-SEC and LC-MS
   - Experience with increasing productivity through automation
   - Microbial protein expression experience
   - Familiarity with processes in antibody discovery
   - Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
   - Ability to inspire and grow a high-performing team, chart and set team
   goals into action, and forge productive cross-site collaborations with
   partner functions
