Dear Colleagues,

We have an opening for a talented, highly motivated postdoctoral scholar in my
laboratory at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) located in
Galveston, Texas, USA (https://microbiology.utmb.edu/faculty/matthieu-gagnon).
Our research uses multidisciplinary approaches to study the structure and
function of the ribosome during protein synthesis. More specifically, we are
interested in characterizing the multi-layers of control and regulation exerted
by ribosome-binding factors and how they confer antibiotic resistance in
pathogens of public health significance. To achieve these goals, we combine
structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology,
next-generation sequencing (NGS) and high-throughput screening (HTS) methods.
Applicants must have completed their PhD in structural biology, biochemistry,
biophysics or a related area, and have an excellent track record. Practical
skills in molecular biology, protein expression, purification and biochemical
characterization are essential. Experience in X-ray crystallography and other
biophysical methods is highly desirable.

More information regarding our recent discoveries can be found at:

https://news.yale.edu/2015/01/21/research-news-ribosomal-motor-crucial-part-cellular-protein-factory

As a postdoc in my laboratory, the successful candidate will have access to
state-of-the-art facilities, including X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron
microscopy, next-generation sequencing, molecular genomics, high-throughput
screening, solution biophysics, biological chemistry and computational biology
(https://www.utmb.edu/core). Moreover, UTMB boasts a renowned, vibrant and
highly active community of infectious disease researchers and clinicians,
providing ample opportunities for broader collaborations and development.

Review of applications begins immediately and will continue until the position
is filled. Interested applicants should submit a brief letter of interest, a
recent CV, and contact information for three references as a merged PDF
directly to Dr. Matthieu Gagnon at magagnon[atsym]utmb.edu.

About Galveston and UTMB

The city of Galveston is situated on Galveston Island, a barrier island located
off the Texas Gulf Coast southeast of Houston, with a subtropical climate and a
natural harbor. Galveston is renowned for its cultural events and seasonal
activities, long beaches with fishing and boating, a rich and diverse island
culture, as well as being home to UTMB. Ample opportunities exist here for
interactions and affiliations with centers of scientific excellence in
structural biology and molecular biophysics, biodefense, molecular medicine,
cancer biology, infectious diseases, environmental health, aging, and
translational sciences (https://www.utmb.edu/centers). In addition to a highly
collaborative environment, UTMB offers outstanding core services, including:
next-generation sequencing, organic synthesis, optical microscopy, flow
cytometry, protein expression and purification, molecular biology, solution
biophysics, NMR, X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy,
bioinformatics, and computational chemistry (see https://www.utmb.edu/core).
Excellent opportunities for scientific interactions also exist through UTMB
Health’s participation in the Gulf Coast Consortia and the Keck Center for
Interdisciplinary Bioscience
(http://www.gulfcoastconsortia.org<http://www.gulfcoastconsortia.org/>).
