Job Description Iowa State University is seeking applications for an Associate Scientist who will serve as the chief scientist and manager of the Macromolecular X-ray Crystallography Facility (http://www.biotech.iastate.edu/facilities/XRAY/xray.html). The role of this position is to conduct research and facilitate/enable use of macromolecular X-ray crystallographic techniques in a diverse range of ISU research projects and to be responsible for providing vision and leadership of the state-of-the-art facility. The person selected for this position will serve as a campus-wide research expert in crystallography and X-ray analysis and must be able to participate and facilitate in securing of external grants for future research, as well as investments in related instrumentation. The person in the position will collaborate with investigators in numerous departments, colleges, and research centers on various projects, including writing research grants and manuscripts and supervising graduate students and research staff. Additionally, this position will be responsible for securing time at synchrotron facilities and for organizing trips to synchrotron resources for data collection. The individual in this position is responsible for equipment maintenance and administration of the facility and for supervising and training facility users. Required Qualifications Master's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, or related field and 5 years related experience, OR Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics or related field and 2 years related experience. Experience must include macromolecular X-ray crystallography. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. with post-doctoral training in macromolecular X-ray crystallography. Research project management experience. Experience in solving crystal structures. Demonstrated success in grant submission and securing of funds. Proven publications record in scientific journals/publications. Salary Minimum $56,898; commensurate with qualifications Special Conditions The ensure consideration date has been extended.
