Salary in the range: £33,010 - £44,350 per annum

Fixed term for 3 years

The Wellcome Trust Membrane Protein Laboratory (MPL) has been running since
the autumn of 2006 as both a facility for users and a laboratory for high
quality research. It is a high-throughput protein crystallisation facility
that aims to enhance the rate of success in the crystallisation of medically
significant membrane proteins. Its location at Diamond Light Source
facilitates high-throughput crystal screening and high quality data
collection.

Applications are invited for a Facilities Coordinator position, starting in
April 2010. The successful candidate will be responsible for running the
Membrane Protein Laboratory at the Diamond Light Source (Oxfordshire)
managed by Imperial College London. You will also be expected to set up a
new laboratory in the Research Complex at Harwell, which will closely liaise
with the MPL.

You will be responsible for running user support operation together with the
scientists and technicians at the facility. You will have opportunities to
perform your own research with the postdocs and students at the facility and
in collaboration with the facility users. You will act as a deputy to
Professor So Iwata, the Director of the laboratory as well as work with the
MPL management committee.

You must hold a PhD in protein crystallography or a related subject and, or
have the equivalent qualifications and experience in at least one of the
following areas: expression, crystallisation and crystallography of
proteins. You must be able to demonstrate experience in facility management
and in providing a service to a wide user community. Experience in membrane
protein studies would be an advantage.
