Just for the sake of completeness, there are old patches around that 
were never integrated for the open-source Radeon and Matrox drivers. If 
anyone has a desire to get this working, you could pick them up (or 
better if you have the money, hire an open-source graphics company like 
Tungsten Graphics to finish them for you). I'd be happy to dig up links 
for you.
