I believe that the archive command can do the following:
1. when you enter "archive" it will generate a copy of the config.
2. archive the config when you save it (if you use the write-memory option)
3. could generate a syslog every time you enter a command (using the log
config option).

As far as i know there is no option that would automatically archive/save
the running config after each change, if there is please provide an example
