I see the flaw in my topology - because R5 is in Area 0 there is no need for the Type 4 LSA. So In the Topology I moved R5 completely out of Area 0 so that the link between R4 and R5 is not in Area 5. Now, As expected I see the Type 4 LSA. Thanks! -----Original Message----- From: Kim Pedersen [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, July 01, 2009 1:05 AM To: Michael Lipsey Cc: [email protected] Subject: Re: [OSL | CCIE_RS] Type 4 LSAs Hi there, LSA type 4 are used between areas to notify other routers how to get to a certain ASBR. The LSA type 5 simply tells all routers (at least in any not stubby areas) that an external route is present. All routers in Area 0, knows how to get to R5 because they are in the same area, so there is no need to create a LSA type 4.
