here is my 2 cents. Vlan allowed is like do not prune any traffic of the allowed vlans. Block all other VLANs traffic. While PRUNING prevents the " unnecessay" traffic from the ALLOWED VLANs if the fowarding switch does not have connected ports of the downstream switch in "FOWARDING state" .
