At about 9;15 this a.m., from my chair at the breakfast table, two male
Rose-breasted Grosbeaks at the nearly empty feeder. Of course, this means
another trip to buy more seed, another consequence of a long-lasting winter.
The gold finches will be happy. At the same time, at least one White-crowned
Sparrow under the feeder and a family of chipmunks playing nearby. Also at
the same time, just to complete the image of a zoo here, a deer strolled by.
Oh, and Shirley found the first garter snake of the season. (Disclosure:
That was yesterday.) Also yesterday, a very few dandelions bloomed along
the roadside. My notes from last year say that by this date all the
dandelions had already gone to seed. Keep smiling.
