Ok, I know the immediate reaction to this question, but if anyone can help, they're on this list serv! My wife is trying to describe a bird she saw at our suet feeder (only 5 feet from window). She describes a "robin sized bird" with black and white ladder pattern on wings/back/tail areas and a red head. So I'm thinking Red Bellied woodpecker, but when I showed her the picture, she went on to describe that its belly WAS red. Also strange is that she claims that its head was not only red but crowned with a "tuft" of feathers. My son saw it too and backs up her story. I have no idea what she saw. Any takers???
