Hi all,
This morning was the birdiest I have ever experienced at our property on Hunt
Hill Rd. I awoke at 5:30 to hear a Redstart singing outside my window. By 6
am the amount of bird song outside was incredible. There was quite a flock of
warblers singing away, which included 3 Northern Parulas, 2 Chestnut Sided, 1
Cape May, 1 Bay-breasted, 3 Blackburnian, 1 Magnolia and 1 Black-throated Blue
warbler, 2 Blue-headed Vireos, at least 4 Yellow-rumped warblers and many more
birds over the course of the morning. In addition, I got a killer look at a
Yellow-billed Cuckoo which perched in a tree with the sun shining on it. This
was a first-of-the-year bird, as were Great-crested Flycatcher, Magnolia and
the Bay-breasted Warblers. I took a break around 8 for some coffee and
breakfast and from our deck, saw a very cooperative Swainson's Thrush pop up
into one of the white pines. It posed for a moment while I got a good look
before disappearing into the bushes. The list for the yard as of 8 am, as
submitted to eBIRD , is below. It was truly an amazing morning! It is now 11
am, and that first Redstart is still singing from the same tree. Maybe he'll
stay around....
Cheers!
Laura
