Cayuga-birders,
I had a request to clear up an ambiguity - to clarify the mysterious "east-west south" ditch that I mentioned in that last post (I can't imagine how "east-west south" could possibly be confusing...), the spot that has been good for Nelson's Sparrows at Martens Tract is the ditch that lies in the wet meadow to the south of the gated road. The ditch runs east to west, or parallel to the gated road.
Good navigating,
Tom (somewhere east-west-north-south of Cornell)

On Thu, Oct 8, 2009 at 2:25 PM, Tom Johnson <[email protected]> wrote:

Cayuga-birders,
Up to 5 Nelson's Sparrows have been observed on four different outings by various observers since 1 October at Martens Tract near Savannah, NY. Most recently there were 4 birds seen this morning (8 October). Sightings have been pretty consistent along the water-filled ditch that runs east-west south of the gated road at the Martens Tract parking area. Other birds seen recently there include Trumpeter Swans, American Bittern, Virginia Rail, and numerous Marsh Wrens and Swamp Sparrows.
Maps, etc can be found on eBird. Boots are recommended for traipsing around in the wet fields.
Cheers,
Tom

--
Thomas Brodie Johnson
Ithaca, NY
[email protected]
mobile: 717.991.5727

--
Thomas Brodie Johnson
Ithaca, NY
[email protected]
mobile: 717.991.5727
