Hi Cayuga Birders,

I¹d like to invite you to a lunchtime seminar tomorrow, Monday, October 5th
at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Tom Stephenson, an avid birder,
recordist and Director of Technology for Roland Corporation will be sharing
his experiences in Bhutan studying and recording the birds of the region.
Please join the Cornell Lab staff in the auditorium from 12-1.

Bhutan: Birds in the last Himalayan Buddhist Kingdom

Nestled in the Eastern Himalayas, and virtually untouched by the
technologies and industries that have shaped the rest of the world, Bhutan
remains a unique and pristine refuge for birds and birders. No where else in
the world can you drive for days and days through uninterrupted primary
forests protecting some of the world¹s most beautiful bird species. This is
a country where the first roads were built in the 1960¹s, TV still is not a
common fixture, and the King¹s focus is on Gross National Happiness. And
most of the country is still relatively unexplored.

Come see Ibisbill, Rufous-necked Hornbill, the brilliant Fire-tailed
Myzornis, Golden Babbler, and the spectacular Himalayan Monal along with
Green-tailed Sunbirds and Pygmy Wren Babblers. And we won¹t leave out
stunning shots of prayer wheels, temples, Dzongs, the rare golden langur;
and, of course, the Himalayas.

Tom Stephenson grew up birding in Ithaca under the tutelage of Arthur A
Allen and Peter Paul Kellogg. He has birded around the world, guided many
birding groups, and most recently has been invited by the government of
Bhutan to train their local bird guides. Tom has written many articles on
birding for periodicals including Birding and Bird Watcher¹s Digest, and
given lectures and workshops for the Audubon Society and other birding
organizations.  On the non-birding front he is a musician and has worked
with clients from Phil Collins to the Grateful Dead. His day job is Director
of Technology for Roland Corporation, a leading manufacturer of digital
editing equipment and electronic musical instruments.

Hope to see you there!

-Jessie
