Hi kind CAS wizards,

Is there a way to crank up logging so as to figure out why the CAS 7
overlay a colleague and I are working with doesn't seem to be able to
connect to an external LDAP server for backend authentication? From the
command-line, ldapsearch is able to make queries so it appears not to be a
firewall/network issue. It's unclear to me whether information about why
things are failing should be in catalina logs, tomcat logs, OS syslog (or
dmesg?) and/or somewhere else. But log4j isn't a technology i've worked
with before so maybe i'm not getting some config related to that correct.

Also, we've been working with debian stable. Is that harder? (I'm in the
process of trying to repeat the steps we've tried on a RHEL9 VM)

Grateful for any pointers in terms of direct information or direction
towards documentation we ought to be studying...

      thanks a bunch in advance,
                ~k
