Just above demos there was the "getting started" section which links out to several documents. I've read all of those. Each of the demos has a documentation link on the left and the demo link on the right. I've read the documentation linked to on the left for CAS Overlay, CAS Service Management Server, and CAS Configuration Server a couple times each. They are all great starting points but leave me completely clueless about what settings are necessary to achieve what end.
I sympathize. Half the time, I myself am just as confused. On the settings front, things should improve quite a bit with additional docs and tags explaining what is required vs optional, etc but for the time being you simply need to be more adventurous, or simply hope that I and others win the lottery :) Short of that, my suggestion is to do exactly as you did.
