I run a size 27 deep cycle / starting rated AGM battery fed by a 30a Astron. I run either a FT991A or a FTDX10 and a 600w DC Worthmore 12vdc Amp all off the battery. With this setup, power outages are not an issue.
I run a similar setup at our farm/deer camp and use a 12v brick pc for internet. This weekend we will be adding solar charging to the shack at the farm. 73, Mike KK5SC Sent from my T-Mobile 5G Device -------- Original message -------- From: K5BOU via BVARC <bvarc@bvarc.org> Date: 11/22/23 10:25 AM (GMT-06:00) To: 'Rudolph Ackerman' <rudolph_acker...@yahoo.com>, 'BRAZOS VALLEY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB' <bvarc@bvarc.org> Cc: K5BOU <phili...@k5bou.net> Subject: Re: [BVARC] Power supply for home I use the Astron RS-50 A. Run 2 icom (7300 and 9700) + bunches of other stuff that need power/. I bought 50 A because sometimes both radios are transmitted simultaneously, and I always wonder what I will purchase next and worry about buying a new power supply. I currently have a Yaesu FTM-400 and a Yaesu FTDX-10. The FTM-400 draws a max of 12 amps and the FTDX-10 draws 21 amps max. I do not see ever transmitting on both at the same time, with that I feel a 25amp power supply should be fine. I'm looking at the Astron SS-30M-AP power supply which provides 25 amps normal and 30 amps peak. The other option is the Astron SS-50M-AP which provides 40 amps normal and 50 amps max. Is there a reason why to go with the larger power supply? Thanks Rudy Ackerman KF5QYG
