The silver solder SN-96 is 96% Tin 4% Silver has higher melting point it is 430 Degrees, regular 60/40 solder has a melting point of 361 degrees.

Using regular 60/40 solder is all you should need for ham radio work. I used to work for a company that made multi-pin connectors and did some

Soldering using sn-96 because that connector was going down hole and would see high temperatures and high Pressure.

Subject: Re: [BVARC] Soldering Rosin Core

60/40 Rosin core solder is the generally accepted solder.  Some solders are better than others which I assume has to do with the quality and quantity of rosin.  Do not use acid core solder.  I like some solder radio shack used to sell which also had some silver in it.  You can also buy some flux in liquid form which is a good supplement to the flux in the solder.

Am expanding my ham experiences into the soldering world and am unsure what type of solder to use? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
