Scott.. I am sure you know that your dissability makes some people uncomfortable...
Only people that get to spend time with you and your dog and get to know you can appreciate your brains and sense of humor... By getting to know you is the way that those people can be more comfortable.... Don’t shy away from the club meetings .. In my opinion you should come to more meetings... You are an asset and I am glad I know you... Yes, I heard about field day...it wasn’t just you that year it was some other things as well.. And Roy volunteered to lead field day that year.. He may not have been the best field day leader we ever had but Im sure he did his best.. That’s all we can do is try to do our best.. The GFM was probably serious.. but instead of jumping on the guy with pack mentality I decided that to me it was funny.. :) and it was funny.. no reason for the people to be hostile towards the guy... if he is going to wish for something it might as well be an expensive K3.. ha ha I knew it might hit some hams the wrong was as soon as I read it.. So many hams piece together a used radio or some scrap wire for an antenna and are happy... so I knew it would wake up the sour feeliings.. ha ha but I laugh.. I have never served the club as an officer, but as the web guy I attended the board meetings for many years without missing a beat.. ( I think everyone should attend and better understand the inner workings of the club) ... Most of our members do not realize what it takes to run the club and it isnt all that much really for most of the board members... But when election time comes the average member has no clue and wont volunteer... If they had gone to a board meeting once or twice they might realize how much fun it is to see what goes on behind the curtain.. And although some have said there is an evil group, or good ol boys, or whatever you want to call the CORE group of bvarcers.. (board of directors)... it really isnt. There are a few that will always be willing to serve, but a few positions seem to always have new people... Some board members are laid back, some are very passionate.. I have not seen any political divisions or groups with different agendas... Its just a group of folks trying to best run the largest radio club in the area.. Arguments at a board meeting consist of things like which resturant would be best to hold the yearly BVARC banquet.. :) Anyway, don’t get me typing, I type too much sometimes.. No offense to anyone... Something along the lines of, "that mean ol' judge rejected my disability claim so buy me a K3 with accessories." Excuuuuuuse me? I mean, if Bill legitimately needs a stable rig, even I have a spare IC-7000. It's no K3, but it's better than a 718. But, the message appeared to be an expectation of charity because of disability. I'm disabled, and I managed to get my degree and then worked. Rick, ya know, I've been mulling over the call for BVARC officer candidates, and I keep returning to the same thought. Even down at the level of a ham club, it's all about the politics. Who knows whom, and so forth. I could technically be an officer, certainly, but could I actually accomplish anything? I keep hearing vague rumblings about how staid BVARC is, and just today I was told that you're part of the problem. I don’t know who's right, but I am smart enough to realize every story has multiple sides. In any case, it's all this strife and consternation around anything that matters that keeps people from getting involved. It's a major reason why I stay away from so many meetings. Who needs extra aggravation? I freely acknowledge Ron Story pretty much soured me on BVARC a few years ago by disinviting me to Field Day because of my disability. I'm sure he had good intentions, but he was out of line and needed correcting. That’s the most embittering point, nobody spoke up so it's really difficult to care about BVARC. -----Original Message----- From: BVARC [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Rick Hiller via BVARC Sent: Tuesday, November 7, 2017 18:31 To: BRAZOS VALLEY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB <[email protected]> Cc: Rick Hiller <[email protected]>; Yahoo <[email protected]>; [email protected] Subject: Re: [BVARC] My GoFundMe Page Ya know, I didn’t mind the GFM submission, I just thought the level of the request was quite ludicrous. Why not start a tad smaller. The issue was a drifting hf rig. A 718 Icom is pretty darn stable and will drive an amp just fine. It wud be under warranty too. I might have even donated empathetically to that cause. W5RH > On Nov 7, 2017, at 6:11 PM, Yahoo via BVARC <[email protected]> wrote: > > I thought it was funny too.
