The slur is not necessary in order to show this problem.
It appears to be caused by trying to fit more music in a bar than there is
space for.
If the line-width is set to 2.5\cm, the tie will be tie-shaped, but
small. At 2.4\cm, the tie shape can be imagined, but the size of the
drawing pen messes it up. At 2.3\cm, the width of the slur appears to be
zero.
The fix would probably involve setting the minimum length of the completion
tie to some positive value,
even if it forces the line-width to be exceeded.
