I see what you mean. It might not be the thicker horizontal lines that makes the 'do' head odd to me, I think it may be that the angled lines are not a fixed width. The white trapezoid in the middle, if you will, has a different shape than the outer black trapezoid. That makes it hard for my eye to process.
I do think the 're' head looks better without the thick lines. 'fa' seems good with a thick bottom line but feels a little out of proportion. Maybe if that line were less thick?
