everyone is getting very confused here.

The issue is that (except for the music fonts, and the Century Schoolbook), the fonts that lilypond embeds is platform dependent. eg.if you use a sans font, it will go to /usr/share/fonts/ (linux) /Library/Fonts (mac) or \WINDOWS\FONTS to find an
appropriate font.

Hence, if you use chord names (which use a sans font), you will get different PDFs
across platforms.

the question is: should we bother to include a standard sans font? It would blow the
installer by probably 0.5 Mb

It could be that Verdana (windows) is larger than Vera Sans (linux), but I am not sure.
