Sometimes, I have the problem that the browser already unzips the file, but leaves the extension untouched. gunzip then reports that such a file is not a gzip file (which is true). Perhaps you're facing the same situation. So, I suggest that you rename the file to lilypond.ps and try to open it with a Postscript viewer (e.g. ghostview, gv, kghostview).
