Well, you can start with the "contributing" page:
https://www.gnu.org/s/hurd/contributing.html
which basically explains that you should install the system, play with
it, get accustomed, etc.

Well, see the bottom of the page: you can start by trying to fix a few
compilation warnings.  That being said, don't bother with fixing the
Linux drivers part of Mach, we don't plan to keep it on the long run.
You may also discuss with braunr on the #hurd IRC channel (freenode), he
may have ideas which areas could welcome some cleanup.
