Sorry, but with your kernel the problem doesn't reproduce anymore! I just get a segmentation fault during the dpkg running, but no kernel panic.

The fact is that hen something ruined and now also with the standard kernel I get a panic, but just a crash... so still dpkg --configure -a doesn't terminate, but behaviour changed. Yet strange, because before, I could really reproduce it many times in a row, including with the debug kernel to give you the stacktrace.
