Well, the project is stalled since ams lost interest. (Partially because he made no progress, as nobody ever figured out how to launch stowfs at boot time; and partially because he was banned from the main Hurd mailing list and IRC channel...) His role in the project is rather special -- on one hand, it was him (AFAIK) who revived the idea of actually providing a complete official GNU system; but on the other hand, his behaviour quickly scared off any potential contributors... And even now that he lost interest, it would be hard for anyone else to pick it up again, as he is still the official "GNU release manager", and still reads the gnu-system-discuss mailing list; so anyone who picks it up will have to deal with him :-( -antrik-
