That's mostly your code (and your translator) now, so you should feel free to do everything you want with it. I think the stowing feature might be interesting. The pattern matching feature has sense the way it is now because --stow is just a way to tell "unify all subdirectories of the given one (as opposed to passing them all as a parameter list, and adding them when creating a new entry)", so all the pattern matching has to be done inside the unionified directories.
