On my Athlon XP 1.6 GHz (or similar, I don't know...) I didn't notice any speedup (compared to the current Debian package), but in contrast to the Debian package I had the GCC smashing stack protection and the GNU Mach kernel debugger enabled as well, so perhaps that drew it out again.
