Linus thinks that his way is the only good way. Every other way is wrong and therefore idiotic. That's why he says that Mach and FreeBSD people are idiots. I have looked several conversations with Linus on various topics (most recently about his disapproval of GPLv3). His way of reasoning and talking with people can best be described with a saying: "I have already made my mind. Don't confuse me with facts!".
