need to fix the code and the documentation both.  Any volunteers?

I don't have the time at present to figure out how to do either one
properly, but if it remains undone at such time as I do have the time to
spare I'd be willing to give it a go. Am I correct in understanding that
by "fix the documentation" you mean "rephrase the documentation such
that it describes the old behaviour rather than the new"?
