Follow-up Comment #2, sr#110746 (group autoconf):
I tested configuring and compiling the library in the setup mentioned in my
original submission with autoconf 2.72d and it worked fine!
However, I was unable to recreate my problem using autoconf 2.71., so I am not
entirely sure I recreated the problem setup properly.
