I've been saying for a good while that the Japanese are ready to jump onto the world stage when it comes to Rock music. There are some fine fine musicians and composers in Japan making original music. But there is still a set of Japanese rockers who tend to ape Americans and Europeans and their standard tropes.
Below is a link for a Japanese band playing Deep Purple's "Burn", but the band's image is more like Kiss, and the onstage posturing is bad enough to be hilarious. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmOp3OVEwfE&NR=1 Just for some contrast, here is Yoko Kanno, who is one of my heroes as she has the chops to do *anything* she wants to, and is exceedingly good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtxDGXS7BLQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDXhQLOIHUg She is broad and varied, and in my estimation anyone with that much great music in them is a beautiful human being. Some examples why I think the Japanese are ready to jump (for those who are interested, I'm trying to cover a variety of genres): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrzlhVpVSDQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRBH1VO1mks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhlXm3hLBfU&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrh9B4vTiw4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGeOhuO10s8&NR=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bSOTxd87-M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znh95vOoDGA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrTDYCX3XWU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTL_lR7KglQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryTABFIZdK0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPZxDWlxJ7c&feature=related xponent A Whim Maru rob _______________________________________________ http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l
