Under Bushian logic, you might be giving Aid and Comfort to the "tur'rists" by questioning the Very Bedrock of Freedom, to wit: Whatever George decides he doesn't like, given the current winds of political expediency.

This holds true for Gingrich too; vide:

This isn't conservatism. It's xenophobia, an ancient thing bred into our genes. Those monkeys don't smell like us, so we have to throw our poop at them before they eat all our bananas.

As it happens I've also looked at the nature of conservatism in the face of "Darwinism", which is a term made up by certain xenophobes in their ongoing attempts to polarize us into well-ordered tribes of utter internecine chaos. I don't believe that the current crop who reject evolution — any more than those who support Bush — are true conservatives; actually, I think I'm closer to the conservative ideal than is, say, Cheney. Or Rummy.

The short answer to your question, it seems, is that we're still living in the dense African wilderness of 3 MYA; or perhaps we've evolved now to the point that we're merely wandering in the desert, looking after the dusty relics of Sinai, warring over we know not what in the name of a god we've all forgotten.
