I'm part of a group called Gold Star Families Speak Out. All of us lost relatives in Iraq or Afghanistan. We support each other, speak at public events and such. We are opposed to the war in Iraq and have called for our troops to be brought home.
Two of our members are being forced to withdraw from the group by their employers. One is already gone; he took a job with a company that has contracts with the Dept. of Homeland Security and he wrote to us to say that when GSFSO showed up in his background check, he was old that in order to keep the job, he would have to drop his membership. The other one said that she's expects to get the same ultimatum soon because her company is starting security clearances. This seems utterly wrong to me. Since when is membership in a peaceful organization -- we have never done or said anything even remotely unlawful -- a legitimate reason for denying employment or security clearances?
