Folks,
The Rockridge Institute (featuring George Lakoff and others) writes
that Progressives hurt their cause by insisting that George Bush is
incompetent. Doing so says that the problem is (merely) poor
execution of a (possibly) good plan arising from a (potentially)
sound governing philosophy.
If the problem is Bush's incompetence, and conservatives run a
competent-appearing candidate to continue the conservative policies
of the present administration, progressives will have nothing to say
in answer.
The solution, writes the Institute, is to shut up about incompetence
and take on the underlying philosophy that leads to results that
progressives dislike: argue against conservatism itself, not
incompetent execution of the conservative vision, to change the
direction of the country.
The assertion that the Bush administration is incompetent is
ridiculous, anyway: the many accomplishments -- like 'em or not -- of
the Bush administration are the proof, the article also explains.
