This is an intelligent group. You insult everyone by even suggesting that they are *that* kind of mindless. OK, if you want to defend people who have been my friends longer than you have been on the list, be my guest. I have no doubt that my friends are still my friends and have a pretty good idea what I meant in my previous posts (better than you seem to have). People who have been here a very long time know I can be quite passionate and that sometimes I will push an issue fairly hard when I believe strongly. Even if or when I am wrong. IMO people should have been screaming about this disaster before I ever typed a word and here is an example why: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032608/ Watch the video of Aaron Broussard and tell me that gas prices is a more important discussion. People, I'm telling you that it is OK to be passionate. It is OK to deeply hold on to conviction. It is OK to speak your mind. It is OK to be wrong. It is OK for you to think I am wrong. What is important is that we be able to learn from each other. Dave, you seemed to interpret what I had to say in the most unkind terms. It is as if you could not imagine that I had something to say about the list that went beyond your experience here. I ask you to try to find a kinder motive for my words. (Like is suggested in the list guidelines) I may be a Texan, but I am not a cracker peckerhead. I may only have a high school education and a little college, but I am not ignorant nor am I stupid. If I get a negative response from you on this it will just be ignored. I'm not into the flamewar thing even though I have no problem with telling someone to STFU. Warren, I *am* disappointed that you think so little of me. I like you and what you have to say. You show passion for things in ways most here seem to fear revealing. So no, I'm not playing a debate team spin card. That has been pretty popular around here of late and seems to have replaced the exchange of frank views for the most part. I don't want to join anyone's debate team though. I'd rather have folks here be my friends than have them as cohorts or adversaries. ******************************************************************************* I really miss the old days of the list. It was once an oasis on the net. Then it became a disaster area. And we have never fully rebuilt. We never recovered from the time Brin blew up and left. We never recovered from Jeroens blowup. There have been too many firefights, spats and petty feuds. Our mantra changed from "Brin is all" to "Politics is all" and that is cause for shame. It is as if when we rebuilt the list we put in all the mechanical parts and left out the heart and the soul, but unlike the Tin Woodsman I don't think it has been there all along unnoticed. Our hope should be with people like Warren and Deb Harrell who put a part of themselves into what they write the way the rest of us used to. I wish Julia had the time she used to and that the "sew'n'sews" still felt the list was worth their time. There was so much kindness shown on the list in those days. And tolerance. Well, you get the list you make and you make the list you deserve, so here we are. xponent Woodstock Generation Maru rob _______________________________________________ http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l
