Actually, I think you misread the original. I believe you and Tom
interpret "the war is on" differently. I read Tom as meaning war = war
in Iraq. You seem to be talking about the war of Al Qaeda against the
US. Obviously, the war in Iraq "is on" primarily because Bush pushed it.
Also obviously, the Al Qaeda war on the US is not the result of the US
invading Iraq, which I think Tom would agree (although I think he would
say the Iraq war made the terrorists more likely to attack the US).
