First off, same-sex couples (a misnomer in itself, as gender is not binary..) are not 
legally allowed to marry in the United States.  Second, the disabled are /free/ to 
marry, even though there are obviously some significant financial disinsentives.  
Can't we address those problems with the system, which you outline, with regular 
legislation instead of a constitutional amendment?
