I think it was sold under the name of "Pocket cube" or something.  Made
by the same folks who made Rubik's Cubes.  (It fit a lot more nicely in
a pocket than the standard Rubik's Cube did....)  Basically, just 8
corner pieces.  My father would stick it in his coat pocket and take it
with him when he went out in the evening sometimes; probably a little
less blatant than carrying a book in with him (which he did a lot, and I
picked up that habit from him, and it took my husband a few years to
really break me of it).
