Just wanted to point out that that is *NOT* what the blurb in the original post said. It said "The book tells the story of a future society in which telepaths are used to detect crimes before they happen, the trade paper reported." So the Hollywood Report is already confused about the two movies!
But the telepaths don't detect crimes before they happen by seeing the future, then detect them by seeing in someone's mind that they intend to commit a crime or are planning to commit a crime, at least if I am remembering the story correctly. But I could be wrong, it's been a looooong time since I read it.
I read a very old tattered copy of The Demolished Man back in the middle 80's when I was in high school, and when I first heard about a new upcoming movie called Demolition Man, I was really excited... but even though it turned out to not be the same story, I liked Demolition Man a lot too :-)
