Yes.  The Iranian government (the theocrats) is
incredibly unpopular, while people I have spoken to
tell me that inside Iran the US is viewed as the
country most likely to help Iran become a real
democracy.  I think that the reformers would view the
presence of American soldiers in Iraq as a very
hopeful sign, and that this presence, combined with a
real (but quiet) support for Iranian reformers would
very definitely have an opposite effect.  When people
_need_ US troops they are usually extremely popular -
it's only after US troops have been protecting a
country for 50 years that its residents start to
forget why they are there...
